WRF CAPITAL INVESTS
$700,000 IN LUMERA
SEATTLE -- WRF Capital has invested $700,000 in
Lumera Corp., a subsidiary of Microvision, Inc. (Nasdaq: MVIS), in the
first round of financing by investors outside of Microvision.
Other investors in the $24 million round of financing, which was led by Cisco
Systems, Inc., include The Barksdale Group, Acorn Ventures, and a group of
individual investors.
Lumera is developing a new generation of unique active and passive components
for optical networks that are expected to deliver increased bandwidth at
competitive cost and with lower power needs. The company's component
development is based on proprietary electro-optic polymer materials developed by
the company and its research partners at the University of Washington.
WRF Capital, part of the independent Washington Research Foundation, invests
primarily in early-stage, technology-based start-up companies, primarily those
with strong ties to the University of Washington and other nonprofit research
institutions in the state.
